Along the way, Shu faces many challenges and dilemmas, such as his friendship with Gai Tsutsugami, the former leader of Funeral Parlor who has his own agenda, his relationship with his estranged sister Mana, who is the origin of the Apocalypse, and his role as a leader and a savior for his friends and humanity.
Guilty Crown Review (My Opinion)
Guilty Crown is an anime series that aired in 2011 and 2012. It tells the story of Shu Ouma, a high school student who gains the power to extract weapons from people’s hearts, and his involvement in a resistance group called Funeral Parlor. The anime has a lot of action, drama, romance, and sci-fi elements, but also some flaws that prevent it from being a masterpiece.
The animation and music of Guilty Crown are top-notch. The character designs are attractive and detailed, and the fight scenes are fluid and dynamic. The soundtrack is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, who also did the music for Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill. The songs are catchy and emotional, and fit the mood of the scenes well.
The plot and characters of Guilty Crown are where the anime falls short. The story is full of twists and turns, but also inconsistencies and contradictions. The pacing is uneven, and some episodes feel rushed or filler. The themes are ambitious, but not well-developed or explored. The characters are mostly stereotypes or clichés, and their motivations and actions are often illogical or irrational. Shu is a bland and indecisive protagonist, who changes his personality depending on the plot. Inori is a beautiful but emotionless heroine, who serves as a plot device and a love interest for Shu. Gai is a charismatic but mysterious leader, who has a hidden agenda and a complicated past.
Guilty Crown is an anime that tries to do too much, but ends up doing too little. It has some great moments and ideas, but also some disappointing ones. It is not a bad anime, but not a great one either. It is a guilty pleasure for some, and a guilty crown for others.
