“Ao-chan Can’t Study!” is a romantic comedy manga series that delves into the life of Ao Horie, a high school girl with an unusual family background. Her father, an erotic novelist, has inadvertently influenced Ao’s perspective on life, leading her to shun relationships and focus solely on her academic goals. The story unfolds as Ao aims to gain admission to an elite university, a dream driven by her desire to escape her father’s shadow.

However, Ao’s life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Takumi Kijima, a popular and sincere classmate who confesses his feelings for her. Despite her initial reluctance and the comedic misunderstandings that arise from her father’s influence, Ao finds herself unable to avoid Takumi. As she navigates the complexities of high school life and her own conflicting emotions, Ao begins to question her beliefs and her plans for the future.

The series, created by Ren Kawahara, was serialized in Kodansha’s Shōnen Magazine Edge from October 2015 to December 2018 and compiled into eight volumes. It was later adapted into an anime television series by Silver Link, which aired from April to June 2019. The narrative explores themes of adolescence, the impact of family on personal development, and the often humorous journey of self-discovery and love.
